Lydia looks for motifs where land predominates over sky (hence hillsides, aerial views, banks of trees etc) and is marked by pronounced geometry (patterns of ploughed or planted fields, regular repetition of motifs such as trees) or by a single central motif (solitary house or tree etc) which offsets its almost abstract surroundings. The nature of Lydia’s subject matter makes her work popular for both decorative individual tiles and as large format murals. She invariably leaves an irregular white margin around the image, which is also always reflected in the tile and mural replications of her work |
